Project

The site was in a rural location and as such roads leading up to the site are generally characterised as un-classified rural roads ranging in width between 3 – 4m.

Challenge

Consequently Mayer Brown investigated various construction routing strategies, direct and with drop off points (where the final leg of the journey would be undertaken by a tractor with a trailer). This involved undertaking swept path analysis, identifying highway restrictions (weight or height) or local and wider construction traffic approach routes in addition to identifying temporary widening required to facilitate delivery vehicle access to the site.

Subsequently we prepared a Traffic Management Plan for the development, which outlined site access, construction traffic routing, trip generation, parking provision and outline mitigation measures in order to minimise impact on the local highways and local residents.

Solution

Following the development receiving planning permission in October 2014 Mayer Brown was commissioned to assist on a number of conditions associated with the planning permission, including:

  • Progressing associated temporary widening works;
  • Undertaking road condition surveys with the local highway authority;
  • Prepare and submit a Construction Management Plan; and
  • Prepare plans outlining the location, layout and access arrangements for contractor parkin
