Rail Interchange Design
We have an impressive track record in the design of rail interchanges, in relation to new stations and improvements to existing stations.
Design of Rail Interchanges
Our skills range from the initial feasibility studies demonstrating how an interchange could operate in the future to allow for growth in different access modes, through to work in relation to the detailed implementation of new and improved stations. This includes pedestrian capacity studies to ensure the Station is correctly designed and detailed operational plans demonstrating how the Bus Interchange, the Taxi Set Down and Pick Up, the vehicle interchange and the car parking would work.
Many of our projects relate to how station interchanges can be modified to create development opportunities at railway stations. We are very familiar with the Network Rail approvals criteria, in particular the GRIP Stages and the Forms 1, 2, 3 and 4 required as part of the Station Change Process.
Need expert help with your Rail Interchange project?
Clients appoint us as Transport Advisors in relation to existing or new rail interchanges. These projects range from the upgrade of an existing interchange, through to the creation of a new station and interchange together with a mixed-use development consisting of residential units and retail units.
The benefits of using Mayer Brown for your Rail Interchange project
We prepare the Transport Submissions to support the planning application. In addition, we advise on passenger foot flow within the station; this is important when looking at the size of the concourse and the interchange facilities. It is also crucial for crowd management for certain projects.
Where required we liaise on your behalf with Emergency Services and any other relevant organisations. We can undertake various studies from track-work and signalling design, through to timetabling and Business Plan preparation.
Our team can skillfully create an interchange area that will give greater priority to pedestrians and cyclists. At the same time, we will ensure there is minimal impact on people parking at the Station, those collecting and dropping off, and taxi users.
Our experts work to ensure that your rail interchange project is economically viable, technically viable, and will work operationally.
