Travel Plan Coordinator - Wilton Hill

Mayer Brown are currently undertaking the Travel Plan Coordinator role for Redrow on their site in Wilton near Salisbury. We were initially involved in the transport planning for the planning application and the detailed highway and drainage design. Subsequently we have been appointed to implement the Travel Plan for the site comprising 375 new homes.

Challenge

Following occupation of the initial residential units, Mayer Brown were appointed in 2018 to undertake the Travel Plan Coordinator role for the site. Travel packs for existing and new residents form a key element of this; including travel vouchers, bus timetables and walking/cycling maps provided by the local authority.

Via a response form included in the Travel Pack, residents are able to apply for “mix and match” vouchers for bus tickets, local bike shops and walking equipment; discussions were held between Mayer Brown and the providers to determine the most appropriate options. The content and design of the packs has been undertaken in conjunction with Redrow to ensure that these are consistent with their company branding. The packs include information regarding the benefits of reducing single-occupancy car travel, local amenities, walking and cycling information, local bus routes, car clubs and sustainable car travel.

Result

We arranged multi-modal surveys at six site entrances to determine baseline mode split, prior to interventions. These surveys will be repeated every two years, with automatic traffic counts on alternate years.
