What You'll Do:

We are looking to employ a Civil Engineering Apprentice as part of our Infrastructure Design Team working towards a Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship BEng (Hons) at the University of Portsmouth.

As an apprentice, you will work alongside other apprentices on the same course and experienced staff gaining valuable hands-on experience whilst studying for a Level 6 qualification in Civil Engineering.  You will spend 1 day a week on day release at University and 4 days in the workplace where you will receive on the job training and ongoing support as part of a friendly and enthusiastic team, keen to get you involved from the day you start. Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Use of industry standard software such as AutoCAD
  • Developing technical highway and drainage designs to support planning applications and the detailed design stage
  • Assisting with the preparation of technical reports, including Flood Risk Assessments, Sustainable Drainage and Foul Water Technical Notes
  • Undertaking technical assessments for new developments
  • Liaison with third parties and Statutory Undertakers to support projects
  • Helping ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, design guides and regulations
  • Generally supporting the team to deliver projects on time and budget

What We're Looking For:

  • UCAS points – 112-120 from Level 3 qualifications including a relevant subject
  • Relevant Subjects:
    • A Levels - Further Mathematics, Mathematics, Statistics or Physics
    • BTEC Ext.Dip – Construction and the Built Environment, Engineering, Applied Science (must include all available maths units)
    • T Level - Construction: Design, Surveying and Planning; Building Services Engineering, Engineering and Manufacturing Design and Development, Maintenance; Installation and Repair for Engineering and Manufacturing; Engineering, Manufacturing, Processing and Control
  • Maths and English GCSE or equivalent grade 4-9 (A-C)
  • Any other qualifications or industry experience that would be advantageous
  • Suitability to be accepted onto the BEng Civil Engineering Apprenticeship Degree Scheme at the University of Portsmouth
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organisation and time management skills
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams) or similar
  • Full driving licence
  • Be motivated, enthusiastic and committed to developing a career in Civil Engineering

Job Particulars:

Salary: £17,000.00 per year

Working Hours: Monday to Friday – 37.5hrs per week (including 1 day of study)

Location: Christchurch, Dorset/Woking, Surrey/Aldershot, Hampshire. Studying at University of Portsmouth – We are looking for someone who can reliably commute or plans to relocate before starting work
