Advising a new Interchange

Our advice and recommendations were sought for the creation of a new interchange on the south side of Walthamstow Central Station, including an improved pedestrian environment for users of the main-line and Underground stations.

Designing an Interchange to Suit Everyone

One of the Key Challenges was to create an interchange area that gave greater priority for pedestrians and cyclists whilst still ensuring it functions well for people parking at the Station, people picking up and dropping off and people using taxis.  The scheme created has an attractive square in front of the station and a low speed environment has been created to allow vehicles to pass through to the station car park.

The Completed Project

These improvements to the interchange and station were completed in 2014 and are an integral part of the complete mixed-use development including a 107 room hotel, 69 residential units and 15 retail units. A Planning Application for Phase 2 of this scheme was subsequently submitted and has received approval.
