David Hicks, fresh back from his study tour of the Netherlands, presented a lunchtime seminar to our Woking office.
His talk included a photographical journey showing examples of various cycle infrastructure schemes providing background to specific design features and their purpose. Topics covered included:
- Basic paths & lanes
- Junctions & crossings
- Neighbourhoods & cycle streets
- Bridges, tunnels & ferries
- Parking, signage & interchange
- Rural areas
- What NOT to copy
As the importance of infrastructure provision is increasingly recognised in the UK as being a key factor in maximising cycling modal share, it is paramount that the fundamentals of design and provision requirements are understood in order to ensure success in future projects.
Our programme of in-house training and lunchtime presentations is seen as a valuable source to provide continued learning to enhance our specialised knowledge in order to provide the planning and design services that our clients require.
