Developing the UK’s Clean Air Strategy

They used the opportunity to question Defra’s Deputy Director on Air Quality and Industrial Emissions, Harriet Wallace on where the ‘quick wins’ may be found in achieving improvements in air quality within the shortest timescales. Harriet conceded that whilst this was a complex area, traction could probably be gained most quickly in educating people away from the home burning of wet wood and smoky coals and in encouraging farming practices to move across to existing, less polluting technologies.
